Between Object, Void, and Light: An Encounter with Younes Rahmoun

Embark on a journey “Between Object, Void, and Light” as we engage in a profound dialogue on spirituality and its translations in contemporary artistic practice with Moroccan artist Younes Rahmoun. Unravel the interwoven narratives that shape our intimate experience of spaces and its spiritual dimension.

For this third session of this Salon Conversations series dedicated to the Musée d’Art et de Culture Soufis MTO™ and the artists invited to participate in its inaugural exhibition, we are delighted to invite multi-disciplinary artist Younes Rahmoun to discuss his artistic practice.

One of his generation's most important Moroccan artists, Younes Rahmoun, has been developing a poetic, minimal, and profound body of work since the 1990s, combining sculpture, installation, video, and drawing. His artistic path can be described as a spiritual journey, a vehicle for achieving a form of transcendence and inner experience.

In this conversation, we'll have the pleasure of discussing the foundations of his work, his influences and sources of inspiration, and the way in which Sufism nourishes both his practice and his relationship with the world. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the recurring motifs that inhabit his work made of metaphors and signs, and how art, through the unspoken links it builds, plays a profound role in grasping subtle mechanisms.

This conversation will be moderated by Alexandra Baudelot, director of Musée d’Art et de Culture Soufis MTO (MACS MTO). This event will take place on Zoom and registration is available here.

The AFSACK Salon Series is an initiative of the American Friends of Sufi Arts, Culture & KnowledgeTM (AFSACK®), a seasonal webinar where recent cultural, artistic, and scholarly works relating to Sufism are discussed. Each hour-long conversation focuses on a theme related to our guests’ recent projects. As a platform for dialogue, the Salon Series seeks to foster interdisciplinary conversations that bridge together broader concepts that are shared across various fields and subjects with Sufism. From art installations, to book talks, to album debuts, the Salon Series is a platform for sharing, dialogue, and access.
