The Invisibility of Architecture

Watch an insightful discussion with architects Dr. Brian R. Sinclair FRAIC and Travis Price FAIA, where they discuss the transcendental quality in architecture - the pause between musical notes that makes the notes relevant, the emotional and spiritual unknown that architecture opens up to us, and the power of metaphor in sacred architecture. By offering a unique lens and new perspectives, this salon talk explored and discussed ways to move beyond the physical form to pursue and optimize the vital intersection of wisdom and space.

Dr. Brian R. Sinclair is an award-winning Professor of Architecture & Environmental Design, and Former Dean, in the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning + Landscape. He has also served as advisor on design + sustainability to the University of Calgary, a demanding and creative role unique in the landscape of higher education. Prior to his deanship, Sinclair was Chair of the Architecture school at Ball State University, USA. Brian holds postgraduate degrees in architecture and psychology. An educator and practitioner, Sinclair`s expertise + engagement spans from science to art.

Travis Price FAIA, is an architect, author, professor, and philosopher with four decades of groundbreaking design to his name. He lectures on and creates modern architecture informed by ecology and mythology. His architecture restores the spirit of place to modern design. Price designs and builds a compelling odyssey of architecture in distant landscapes built by extraordinary cultures highlighting mankind’s greatest sacred buildings. In 2019, he was nominated for the coveted AIA Gold Medal for his historic contributions to “ecological and cultural literacy in modern architecture.” Ecology, mythology, and technology are his design lenses. Historical and modern sacred architecture are his primary passions.
